For the Solar-C mission, the SoSpIM instrument is being developed on behalf of ESA. The main objectives of the instrument are solar irradiance measurements in two wavelength bands.
dlab's contribution is the digital controller board, which features a custom FPGA design with a SoC. This allows the implementation of all required interfaces in a highly flexible way. The instrument software runs on the RTEMS real-time operating system, where all interfaces are accessible. The application layer of the instrument is written in the LUA scripting language. This allows scientists to create or update measurement processes from the beginning of the development until the end of the space mission.
During the project, peripheral software was also developed on an AVR controller. This software controls the shutter mechanisms.
The EGSE software makes all the embedded software accessible from a Windows PC. This allows testing, data logging and data analysis throughout the project.
